Thermo Tech Windows Reviews
Bill, thanks for replying so quickly to my previous email! Also, I received another quote today, which I am leaning towards as the best of the bunch in terms of the combination of price, product quality and installer, and was hoping you might be willing to review it. As a reminder, I live in Minnesota, and am replacing 14 double hung windows, and will also be getting a little exterior trim replaced, in addition to adding aluminum wrap around the window frames outside of my home. I had the bid from a local dealer who sold ThermoTech, but his bid was $21K, which is just too much for my limited budget.
My latest quote is from the Universal Windows Direct rep near me (stevethewindowguy.com), for 14 Unishield Plus double pane windows (relabled Polaris ThermalWeld window), for $15k w/ financing, with a $1k discount for paying all upfront which I’m leaning towards doing, for $14k total. Also, they do offer a triple pane as well. However, Steve believed given my home’s age, and the likelihood of relatively poor insulation in my walls, that triple pane might just be overkill anyway. Given his online reviews, and the sentiment I read into the comments from his customers, I do think he’s being honest in his recommendation.
From other quotes I previously sent to you, the one you liked best was for 14 Hayfield Vinyl Classics for $17k. The new quote for the Unishield’s at $14k feels better not only in price, but also the installer company has a longer history in market/in business with 17 years vs 2 years. I included all the prior quotes below for reference, too. Thanks for any additional guidance!

Colin, I really like this option! In fact, the Unishield Plus (really a Polaris ThermalWeld Plus) is a strong and well built unit and obviously the price point is great compared to your existing bids. So, if Steve is recommending you don’t spend more money on triple pane, then I would believe him as he would make his markup on that higher per window cost. Therefore, I think this is your best bet from the options that you’ve looked at thus far.
I always find it amazing that you have bids from $35K to $14K for the exact same job. By the way, the performance data on the ThermalWeld Plus series is superior to the Renewal fibrex series. Lastly, I do agree with you that the ThermoTech Windows cost quote is just too high. Very good product though.

Energy Guard Series Price Quote
Bill, I’ve collected 5 quotes at your behest on 20 windows, most of them double hungs. So, the final two are these: Energy Guard Series at $18.5K on their premium window and the Wincore 7700 series at $16.8K. Additionally, I wondered what you thought the better play was between these two.

Donald, for me, the better play here is the Thermo Tech, makes a nice window, especially in the Energy Guard. Additionally, I think it offers the better value over the Wincore 7700 option.
