Hurd windows prices were fairly reasonable when compared with most other wood window manufacturers such as Andersen and Pella. The company went out of business back in 2008 and their assets were purchased (out of bankruptcy) by Sierra Pacific windows. Sierra Pacific took over their factory and adopted most of their window series and marketed them under the same or similar names. However, because Hurd had already filed for bankruptcy, Sierra Pacific was (is) not legally responsible for any Hurd windows warranty claims. It is possible that Sierra Pacific would handle warranty claims, but it is not their legal responsibility.
Company Rating: 5.0 out of 10
Overall Price Point: 7.0 out of 10
Bottom Line: Hurd no longer exists, so it’s going to be difficult to collect a price quote from them (or to get any relief according to the original Hurd Window warranty). However, Kolbe and Sierra Pacific are two alternatives that you might want to get a bid from if you are in the market for wood clad windows.

Hurd Windows Prices
We paid nearly $1500 a window for Hurd windows back in 2004. At the time, it seemed like an arm and a leg (and actually still seems expensive, but we were assured that they were a high quality company). The windows started going bad after about 12 years, hard to open and close, the weatherstripping frayed. They just didn’t stand up to the elements well. To be fair, the two patio sliders held up very well. If I had it to do over again, I would not buy this brand, but would go with Marvin windows or Andersen. I was curious whether anyone else had this experience.

Wynn, you are not alone in your experience with Hurd windows. However, many wood window manufacturers have had issues and/or lawsuits related to the wood windows improperly functioning. Some of it is the fault of the owners, who didn’t take care of the windows and properly maintain them. In other cases, the blame is squarely on poorly made window units. Understandably, there had been several Hurd windows lawsuits aimed at getting financial remedies from the company – I’m pretty sure that was partly the cause of the company closing its doors. It’s really not fair to homeowners who bought Hurd windows and doors in good faith.
