Addison Series

Good Morning, we met with Window Nation yesterday who presented us with, what feels like, a quality replacement window. Lifetime warranty on everything and transferable for 15 years to the next owner (not that we’re leaving). Really good caulking/foam (OSI), upgraded screens, 98% argon fill, triple-silver on both sides of dual-panes, mold prevention and remediation, AAMA certification, upgraded glass (3mm rather than 2.25mm), etc.

The brand of window is called the Addison (made by MI Windows) and we miscounted initially on our # of windows (counting windows as openings rather than panels), so we have 30 all together. We were quoted a price of $39K for all, replacing the single hung with double-hung.

Seems like a reasonable price considering the quality of the window. We had Pinnacle and a builder who uses OKNA600 give us their spiel and estimates, and neither of those brands of windows had some of the upgrades that the Addison had — mainly the inferior warranties and building materials such as caulking/foam.

The Addison is built by MI as a proprietary Window Nation product and we saw on your site that you weren’t thrilled with some MI products, so this part is making us a bit leery of pulling the trigger and moving forward. We do so appreciate any thoughts and comments you may have on this.

Thanks again!

Molly, I’m not sure that I would use caulk/foam as the basis of a decision – this is more of an installation preference (foam or traditional fiberglass insulation for instance). However, I would certainly compare the online reviews and ratings of these two companies as a much better gauge of who is going to do the better job – plus this offers a much bigger data set to compare.

I just think that the Okna 600 is the better window over the Addison. In terms of warranty, I actually don’t put much stock in warranties – I always worry that at year 20 when I need a couple of the IGUs replaced, that the branch is gone or the warranty is pro-rated after year 10 and now I have to pay 70% of the cost anyway. For me, I’d rather have the better window and then not have to worry about warranty issues and how well or poorly the company handles it (especially because after 20 years I don’t know who is running the shop).

I’m sort of jaded in this aspect of the window game….

Grandview Series

Bill, I’d love to get your perspective on this – I intend to read your window nation reviews soon, but I’ll ask my question for some context. So, I can either go with the Window Nation Grandview that comes out to just over $14K for three slider windows and 14 double-hungs. Conversely, I can go with the Apex Insignia that comes out to $15 for the same number of windows. Both companies get good reviews so it feels like I am comparing apples to apples. The Grandview has an air infiltration rating of .04, which seems very good. The Apex is .10 — so not as good. Also WN has a lifetime labor warranty and Apex is for 2 years only. What’s the call here? I’m in North Carolina if that matters.

Donna, the Window Nation Grandview is the clear winner in my book in this match up. Simply put, better price, better warranty, good installation company, and good air infiltration rate. Seems like an easy call!
