Universal Windows Direct Reviews

Our Universal Windows Direct reviews can provide consumers with a better understanding of the company’s UniShield Plus window series and their installation quality.

Company Basics: UWD is an Ohio based company that has been around since 2002. The company does not make their own line (they are not a manufacturer), but instead they focus on window installation. Reputationally, UWD has a good record from what I see online and from what I heard from industry insiders.

UWD Windows: The company sells the UniShield Plus series, which is actually the Polaris ThermalWeld. This is considered a high quality window. Maybe not a top tier vinyl window, but close. Polaris Windows Reviews

Bottom Line: I like what UWD sells a lot. A quality window that isn’t going to break the bank, but will provide good value to homeowners. Just make sure that the UWD in your area has good/great reviews and they offer you a fair price.

Company Rating: 7.5 out of 10

Universal Windows Direct Reviews

I received the following quotes for 10 double hung windows. Polaris ThermalWeld Plus triple pane $8,350 for 10 windows, installed by an independent contractor with 50 years experience only installs Polaris. Did my friends about 10 years ago. they were very pleased.

Okna Eco Pro 600 series triple pane $11,000 for 10 windows quoted by Window Universe in CLE. Sunrise Classic (4500) series double pane only, $11,100 for 10 windows. Moving on, the Sunrise Restoration $13,270 double pane for 10 windows. Quoted by Smart Windows. I was told that we didn’t need to go triple as benefit was marginal only.

Also, Universal Windows Direct UniShield Plus (Polaris ThermalWeld Plus) gave me a bid on a double pane for either $17,000 or $13,500 (only good for the day) so obviously not considering the Universals quote. I’d appreciate your thoughts and recommendation. Is it worth while getting another couple of quotes on your recommended windows list?

[Site Editor’s Answer]

John, you could get more bids, but I think you’ve done your due diligence here. Personally, I would go with the Polaris ThermalWeld Plus by the independent contractor. Very nice window, good price, and it sounds like the contractor does good work. For sure, the EcoPro is the better window, but I think the better value here is the ThermalWeld Plus —

Universal vs Okna

Bill, we have recently purchased a home from the 1970s and realistically have to replace the existing windows – they are leaking like you wouldn’t believe. Now, would you say that the Universal WD is the better decision as compared to Okna — the 400 series is the one they gave us a bid on. The prices are pretty similar with the UWD bid about $1000 more than the Okna.

Editor Response

Courtney, the Unishield Plus by Universal would be my pick over the Okna 400 series. Even with the price difference. It’s going to provide more value in my opinion.
