Simonton Windows vs Milgard | Company Info
Simonton has been in the window and door business since 1946 and in the vinyl window space since the 1980s. The company started out in West Virginia, although they now sell their windows and doors in every state in the contiguous U.S. (I’m not sure about Hawaii and Alaska, but probably yes through Home Depots.)
Today, the company manufactures a whole slew of window and door series, all of them using vinyl frames. (Vinyl windows make up nearly 65% of the entire window market so it makes sense that companies would concentrate only on this material.) While Simonton isn’t considered a top tier brand, they are still a good quality company that makes a quality product at a fair price point.

Milgard has been making windows and doors since 1958 – so just a decade less than Simonton. The company began in Washington state where they made wood clad windows. Today, Milgard makes vinyl, aluminum, and wood clad window and door series – so one place where the two companies differ from one another. Unlike Simonton, however, Milgard is only available west of the Mississippi river, making it a west coast centric company.
Both of these companies are also owned by much larger corporations – Simonton by Cornerstone Building Brands and Milgard by MITER brands.

Milgard Ratings
Milgard tends to sell lots of their lower end Slimline series to builders and developers – who buy them because they are relatively inexpensive. When consumers have issues with them in their second decade, this often leads to poor online reviews. Milgard’s better made windows like the Trinsic and the Homemaker receive good overall reviews.
