Alliance Windows vs Pella | Company Info
Alliance Window Systems is comprised of seven window manufacturers that act as a sort of co-op to buy quality window parts at a more competitive price point. This allows them to better compete with larger manufacturers that have greater buying power. Each of the seven AWS members then manufactures in their own facilities. In turn, they sell their products through dealers and/or contractors and builders.
Alliance offers three vinyl window options: the Windgate (new construction), Belmont (entry level vinyl replacement) and Hawthorne (step up vinyl replacement). AWS offers a good vinyl window in the Windgate and Hawthorne series. Because they are separate manufacturers, all of the different operators will have differing overall quality reviews and reputations. Therefore, it’s important that consumers take a close look at the Alliance near them to gauge the overall quality they can expect.
Alliance Window Warranty
The Alliance window warranty protects homeowners from manufacturing defects are their lifetime on the frame, sash, parts, and the IGU – insulated glass unit. The warranty may be transferred to one additional owner (new owner’s warranty period is 20 years from install date). AWS provides a five year labor warranty.
Pella Windows And Doors
Pella has been a family window and door company since 1925, and they are located in Pella, Iowa. While they may be headquartered in Iowa, the company sells their products in all 50 states – making it the much bigger of the two companies. As well, Pella windows and doors are much more widely distributed than the AWS brand. Pella is one of the biggest windows brands in the United States today and enjoys a very good reputation as a quality manufacturer (which I agree with on their wood clad windows only).
Pella manufactures several very good wood-clad windows series in the Architect and Reserve (their Lifestyle is probably a pass for me). They make decent vinyl windows in the 250 series and Hurricane Shield (impact window). Their entry level vinyl window Encompass is definitely a pass for me. Finally, they also manufacture a fiberglass window in the Impervia series, which I think is actually their least impressive window (check out my selections for the best fiberglass windows on the market here).
Pella Windows Warranty
The Pella warranty will vary based on the material you purchase. So, for instance, their wood windows come with a lifetime warranty, which is unusual for wood windows, which often carry a 20 year warranty. They offer 10 years on the installation, which means if there is a manufacturing issue within the first ten years, the company will cover the labor cost of replacing the window. Like many warranties, there are important exclusions that apply so always read the specific warranty offered prior to purchase.
