Ply Gem Windows vs Milgard – how do they match up? Let’s examine each company, their windows and doors, and what they cost.
Both Ply Gem and Milgard are pretty well known window brands – I’m not sure there is a clear winner in terms of overall popularity. I would give the nod to Milgard in terms of overall quality of their products. They also have a higher price point so that would or should make sense. Ply Gem tends to be a bit more geared towards builder grade projects, although their premium vinyl windows are good quality.
Ply Gem’s Overall Rating: 6.5 — Milgard’s Overall Rating: 7.0
Ply Gem Windows vs Milgard | Company Info
Ply Gem started in the 1950s and today has their headquarters in Cary, North Carolina (as do several other window companies). To most consumers, Ply Gem is more of a building supply company (roofing materials and vinyl siding – they sell some 40 different building products) than strictly windows and doors.
Ply Gem makes and sell lots of different vinyl window models and series (and patio doors), which I don’t love from a basic “easy to wrap my head around what they are selling” point of view. Additionally, their series differ if you live in the east or the west. For me, I much prefer a company that sells three of four lines and doesn’t get too in the weeds with 20 different product lines. Regardless, Ply Gem premium windows are quite solid and their entry level windows are quite entry level.
Milgard Windows And Doors
Milgard started in the 1950s as well and today is headquartered in the state of Washington. Unlike Ply Gem, Milgard is not a building supply company, and instead focuses solely on windows and doors. As well, Milgard is not available east of Texas (Ply Gem sells throughout the 48 contiguous states). They are strictly a west half of the country operation (with 6 factories located in Washington, California and Arizona).
Milgard makes and sells seven different window and door series, which is obviously much simpler than Ply Gem. They offer four vinyl series (listed from least expensive to most): Slimline, Tuscany, Trinsic, and Homemaker. In addition, they have a Quietline, which is a noise reducing series. Finally, they sell an aluminum window in the A250 and a fiberglass window in the Ultra.
