When it comes to window installation, there are varying levels. We aren’t going to go into a ton of detail as to what is involved in each, but instead will concentrate on listing industry standard pricing. Window installation cost will vary by project, which is why it is so important to get multiple replacement estimates in order to compare how the contractors are bidding them out.
Do-It-Yourself Installation
Pretty self explanatory – this is for consumers who decide that they have the home improvement chops to replace their windows themselves. Please note: getting access to quality vinyl windows (or any other window frame material) can be a real challenge. Your best bet is to go to the big box stores such as Lowes or Home Depot. While many of the brands they carry are less then stellar (Silverline Windows are on of the worst window brands on the market in my opinion), they do have some decent options such as the Andersen 100 window or the premium Reliabilt window. On average, consumers can expect to pay $50 for each of the windows. This cost is typically split between materials and tools.

Insert Or Pocket Replacement
Insert or pocket installation is the simplest of all the professional installation processes. Essentially, the existing window is sawzalled out of the frame and the installer cleans up the opening. The new replacement window is inserted directly into the opening and the installer secures it to the wood frame using predilled screws through the new window frame. Next the installer(s) spray a low expanding foam to fill in any gaps and caulk the window both inside and out. Finally, any finish work is done to make the window look fantastic on the interior and exterior. On average, pocket inserts cost $75 to $150 for each of the windows.
